Hiking in the footsteps of the Romans
Emperor Claudius hat the Via Claudia Augusta extended to create the first real road through the Alps that connect the Adriatic port of Altinum with the Danube. Since most Romans travelled on foot, road stations were built at intervals that were equal to a day's march so that they could rest overnight and rejuvenate. In general there was also a small spa and a sanctuary. With this in mind, we have set out a long-distance hiking route in a similar style. The route runs through a rich diversity of natural and cultural landscapes, which has characterised the Via Claudia Augusta over the centuries. Hundrets of testimonies to an eventful history and the cultures shaped by it are wating to be discovered. Not forgetting all the tempting delicacies from kitchen an cellar along the way. The recommended places to stop for the night split the route up into day stages. Collect myriad impressions, discover roots and find yourself at the same time - this is what hiking on the Via Claudia Augusta is all about.

Distance: 29 day stages of 4 - 6 hours walking or approx. 550 km
Logistics: return transfer by bus, Luggage service from hotel to hotel
Profile: forest paths, hiking trails and quiet side roads, predominantly at the foot of sunny mountain slopes, like the historic route.
